I am having a problem with my picture size and resoultion. I am a Mac. user. When I open up a picture into photo shop CS2 it comes up as a weird size(3inch b 5 inch) the resoultion is also only at 72. Worse than this is that when I open up a new page and drag my picture into it, the size of the picture is really small like 1/4 inch my 1/4 inch. I thought that it might be my camera so I bought a new one, i am still having the same problem with the new camera. I think that it must be something with CS2 or Iphoto, does anyone know? Please help me I am super frustrated.

I'm sure I can help you but I may have to keep asking questions until we figure this out.

My first question is do you have your camera set on it's highest setting. Something like Fine or Super or Large. If you don't know how to do this make sure you read your manual.

I'm not really familiar with iPhoto so I don't know if that could be the problem. I really doubt what you are doing in Photoshop is the problem. When you drag your 3x5 72 dpi image into a 12x12 300 dpi layout it makes sence to me that it would be that small. Photoshop converts the size when you drag it onto another document at another resolution so that you can see what it should look like at 300 dpi and so you know it will print well at that size. Is that clear at all?

Can you try NOT using iPhoto and see if that is the problem?

I do have it set on the highest setting. My husband even went into inkley's and had them look at it. I don't know how to pull my pictures into anything but I-photo, when I go to import my pictures it just goes right into I-photo. Any other ideas?

The problem has to be with I-Photo. At least that's what I think because I can't think of anything that would cause a problem like that in Photoshop. I know I-Photo is a popular program so I'm sure it's an easy fix.... anyone know???

Why don't you try closing I-Photo when you are importing your pictures and see if you can go to your "my computer" (assuming that's what it's called on a Mac) and find the external drive for your camera or memory card. Try opening it up then cut and paste all those pictures into the picture folder you want to save them in. Can you do this?

I don't think the problem is in iPhoto. I've been using iPhoto for a long time and just recently bought a new camera. With my old camera the pictures would automatically upload into iPhoto at 300dpi and about 4x6 inches. Now, my new camera automatically uploads the photos at 72dpi and about 35x35 inches. I didn't change anything in iPhoto "preferences." The only change was cameras.

Did your camera come with an installation disc? If so, I'd reinstall your camera onto your computer and see if in that process there's something you can do to adapt how the photo is uploaded onto the computer. To find this, use the "search" tool and try to find your camera's info on your hard-drive. Maybe within your camera file there are settings you can change.

I haven't had very good luck with Inkley's knowing too well how to help me with integrating my Inkley's camera and a Mac.

If all else fails, it may be worth it to try searching the postings on the Apple website forums, or even schedule a visit with a genius at the Apple Store. I've searched iPhoto to try to answer your question and I really am doubtful that the problem is within that program.

Good luck! By the way... welcome to the forum, Tori! xoxo

Just checked the Apple forums to see if the answer was within Apple. Someone wrote in this:

"they're coming in at a very small size and small resolution."

the answer was: "iPhoto does nothing to the files, simply copies them in."

This leads me to conclude that the problem still lies within the camera or the importing process, but not in iPhoto. I'll keep investigating.

Quinn, thank you SO MUCH for helping Tori.

Tori, maybe you should tell us step by step what you are doing.

I figured out the problem. I was opening my pictures up through the "data" folder, instead of the "orginal" folder. My pictures are now normal size and coming in at a better resolution. Thank you so much for helping me. Quinn I will see you on Friday. I hope that the Jazz pull through tonight! :)

I was just going to suggest this -- I did the same thing for a couple of weeks before I realized it. To help, I created a "original" folder shortcut on my finder window :)
