Okay I am trying to decide between the Canon G7 and the Canon S5 IS that is due to come out the end of June. They both look great but wanted your opinion on them.

Thanks for any help you can give me,

Jennifer:eek:

Here is a side by side comparison. You can find quite a bit more information on this site for both cameras. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_s5is%2Ccanon_g7&show=all

I'm kind of leaning towards the S5 being the best... I'll tell you why I'm thinking that way as soon as I can tonight. I have to get a couple projects off real quick.

Ok... I'm back. I am NOT any where close to an expert on this but I'll give you my two cents. I owned the G7 when it was a G3 about 5 years ago and was really happy with it for a long time. The G7 is much better than the G3 so I would think you can't go wrong with it.

I'm was kind of leaning towards the S5 being the better camera but now I'm not so sure. I like that it has a better zoom and has an electronic viewfinder verses the optical the G7 has http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/key=viewfinder. I never had a problem with the viewfinder on my G3 - probably because I only used the LCD screen so maybe this won't matter to you.

Now, I'm kind of leaning back to the G7 being the better one because I just noticed that it is much lighter and a little smaller. Also, the S5 requires 4 batteries...yuck. I hate dealing with those. The G7 has a rechargeable battery which is sooooooo nice.

I personally don't think you should make a decision based on the megapixels. I think both are plenty big. Bigger is nice but I think once you are up to 8 megapixel it is plenty big anyway.

Good luck! Sounds like either way you will have a great camera.
