That's me too Alicia. I'm not tempted though because I love the 30D and have yet to use it to half of it's full potential.

Well Im tempted only because I keep wondering if I should of bought the 5D? I ended up spending more on a new lense then the my 30D body. How often do you shoot in Manual? Im at about 90% with the exception of tricky lighting where shutter speed is important then I usually throw it into P, TV or Auto.

Yipee!!! My husband just told me he would get me the 40D for Christmas. I almost got the 30D awhile back, but ended up just getting the Rebel XT. I've regretted it ever since and can't wait to get the 40D. I am hoping I can talk him into getting it a little early. He's so patient with me. I am a camera freak and have gone through so many cameras since we got married. I used to have a couple of film SLR's and had just bought a nice, new one just before the digital SLR's dropped in price. Once that happened, I knew I had to switch to digital so I got the XT. The XTI came out a couple of months after I bought my XT and I was so bummed. The screen size on the XT is pretty little. Plus I shoot with my left eye and my nose is always bumping the self timer button. It drives me crazy because I have missed some amazing action shots and some darling shots of my kids because of it. The 40D's buttons have been changed around so that my nose won't interfere!!! My father-in-law has the same camera as me and just laughs because he can't understand why I can't just switch to my right eye. I've tried and it just doesn't work for me. Pretty silly, huh? Anyway, I can't wait to upgrade.

Misty, you're so lucky!! I really want a nice digital SLR, but I think that will have to wait until after I'm finished with college. Don't worry, I only have 6 MORE YEARS!!! Ooohhhh, I don't know if I can make it!

Also, I took a hunter's safety class where we learned that everyone has a dominant eye (I don't hunt, but my work was offering the class for free). Anyway, that's the eye you use to aim, and so it makes sense that if your dominant eye is your left eye, that it wouldn't work for you to use your other eye. You should have your father-in-law try using his left eye to take a picture sometime.

MISTY-Costco has the D40 with 2 lenses (I think) for $999. Don't know if that's better or worse than you were thinking.

Sure that was a 40D for $999?

If so that would be a great price! The cheapest online place I can find is $1259.00 for the body only.

If anyone is going to costco they will have to check that out for us.

Edit... just found one for $1220

Keith, where did you find it for $1220?

I searched shopzilla.com, and found the link. It went to a website with lots of black on the screen. A search now goes to this page (link says $1220, but site says $1230

http://www.digicombos.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=170&Click=9632

I have never heard of that company or site, so I don't have any idea on their products or service

No problem Alishaw! It gets so confusing with the names...D40, 40D. Don't know why they do that. Thanks for the info, Keith. The cheapest I had found was $1249.
