OK- so I'm running low on creative juices, my pages are looking the same and really think it would be fun to do a ScrapSwap. Here's how it works... You post a photo or group of photos with journaling, dates, labels etc that you want someone else to digiscrap for you. Whoever posts RIGHT BELOW YOU, downloads your photos (click on them to view and then right click to save) and scraps them with your details. Anyone who wants to participate posts by Sunday night (September 23) and whoever is last, I'll do theirs.
Then you have until NEXT Sunday (September 30) to repost with your finished page for that person & email them a printable copy. Be sure to do only jpg so we don't violate any copyrights. :)
Does that sound fun or lame?

I would love to do this! I'm just wondering if I'm even good enough to join in. Some of the pages that I have done I want to redo because I think they're ugly now. But they're done so I'm not going to. My hubby says that I need more confidence in the scrapbooking.

Here's mine:
Your first time bowling. 9/1/07
Your very first time bowling was for Brennan's birthday party. You tried different techniques: Grandma style-too slow. Throwing it-too loud. So you tried to copy everyone else and roll it as best as you could. If you hit ANY pins, you'd shout "WOO-HOO!" and jump up and down.
Light blue shirt: Rushton (my son)
Red shirt: Brock (cousin)
White shirt: Brennan (cousin)
And I'm old school and scrap 8.5 X 11 :D

We all have pages we'd like to redo (or forget we ever did all together) That's what makes it so great because you can see how far you've come. I know you'll do great!

Okay you talked me into it! You can totally toss it if you hate it. I won't mind!:) Or just use it as a laugh.

This is such a great idea!! Hopefully I'll have time to post some pictures this weekend. Plus, I need to make sure I have enough time to scrapbook this coming week. I'll figure out what my schedule looks like and post some photos if I think I have the time.

So, I'm doing Alishaw's right?
Here are some pictures for someone to do for me. Grace is posing for the camera. (Sorry they are so big! The files were too big! I didn't want to screw around with them.)
Model in Training. Date: 9/6/07
I'm not too picky about the journaling. I have one request though, can you say something about the drool in the first and third pictures? Maybe something like " What drool isn't in style? It is now!" Thanks! If I get anymore ideas I'll pm whoever is doing mine!

Jolene! Look at you go! You are so fast. Dottie is so lucky.
I have so much to do I can't participate but since Jolene doesn't have pictures to share I'll keep it going with mine... ha ha... This means I don't have to scrap a page right? Actually I would love to scrapbook a page for someone but I'm so overwhelmed right now. I hope to participate the next time.
Since I'm totally bending the rules and taking advantage of Jolene's kindness I'll draw a name from all the people that participate in this thread and send someone a free CD. I'll draw the name after everyone posts next week.
Here is the low res version. I'll e-mail whoever does this the high res version of the picture.

You guys are sweet, but really... this has been fun. (how many posts does it take to be a Rock Star? I was thrilled to graduate from Baby)
Maybe the first week of every month we could do this and anyone who wants can join in. That would set the scrapping mood for the month. I hope Alyson and others who wanted to can do it next time. I love it when I see how people use April's CD images & all the fun techniques.
April, can we create another category on the front forum page for our ScrapSwaps?

Jenny McDonald
09-25-2007, 11:41 AM
I'd like to know that too, alisha. (what Dottie asked above) I'd really like to do that sometime in a layout!

boy am I embarrassed. I was wondering why my "real men wear pink" LO wasn't showing up in the " latest pages" thread. Just realized that I posted it here. What a golfball. Sorry guys!
Alishaw
09-25-2007, 02:03 PM
The fading is so fun to do! With your photo pulled up (not on a page yet) duplicate the layer so you are working on a copy. Then create an adjustment layer & choose gradient. Use black to transparent and move the percent to where you want it. The black will show best and the transparent will fade it. Once you have it where you want it. Move the copy of the photo ABOVE the adjustment layer then group with previous (Ctrl-G). Hide your original and you can see the fade. Merge the grouped layers together and then slide them onto your layout.
Here's two other examples: one is left to right and the other is bottom to top gradient. It's very fun to experiment with-TRY IT!
Alyson
09-25-2007, 02:34 PM
Those are great pages Alishaw!! I've tried the faded look before, but I did it a different way. Your way sounds a lot easier, so I'll definitely be giving it a try. Thanks for the help.

Don't worry, I'm sure we all had problems at the beginning...I still have problems getting the filesize small enough while maintaining a good resolution. My guess is that the file you're trying to upload is too large. Before you close the upload window make sure that the file is listed there. If it's too big it will say something to that effect in the upload window as well.
Jolene
09-25-2007, 07:48 PM

I tried too Alisha on Elements 5. I went to adjustment layer and it had something with gradient. Then another window popped up and I couldn't see anything that said black to transparent. I really want to do this--any help when you have time would be appreciated. Thanks to all for your kind words. It's great to be a part of this site.

Alishaw
09-25-2007, 11:50 PM
Guys, did I leave a step out? I'm on PSE 4. I'll add photos this time...
With your photo open, right click in your layers palette and choose layer from background.
Add gradient adjustment layer by clicking on the half black half white circle with down arrow in your layers palette and choose Gradient (photo 1)
Then in your drop down box there are gradient choices. With black as my foreground color, I choose the black to transparent option. Say OK (photo 2) You can see what it does to my photo.
Then in my layers palette, I am going to move my photo ABOVE my gradient layer I just created. Then group with previous (Ctrl-G). (photo 3) You can see my layers and now my photo fades.
Then I right click in my layers palette and merge visible so they are now together in one layer. I can drag it onto my layout and even though this is a bad looking example, you can see how it fades. (photo 4)
TA-DA! I'll double check to see if PSE 5 does the same or not. Unless someone knows already...

This site could be hazardous to your life--neglecting motherhood, housework and husband. All I want to do is get on this site and study. April, you might have to come up with a 12 step program to help me keep a balance of all things. Girls, I'm sure having a great time. I got up this morning, made the beds, threw a batch of laundry in, made a batch of orange rolls--they are rising now, got the kids to school, went on my run, all so I could try Aliza's technique now. I'll probably be on the computer now for a couple of hours here and there. I'm addicted! Thanks to all of you for your kind words. Quinn, I used Moods, Playful if you want to add anything. I hope I gave you enough room to journal. Jolene, Jaime and Alisha, you're good to me:) Let's keep this going. Oh, No, here comes my husband, dropping by from work. I need to hurry and get off the computer before he finds me :) LOL Kim

totally know what you mean. ever since we got the internet I've been hooked. There's always more techniques to learn & this is a great community. I think I'd need the 12 step program, too. My other weakness is the "Twilight (http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight.html)" series. More on that in the chat section. Oh, I'm sorry. My mom had to do that and she said that it was so long and boring. And they don't let you take potty breaks when you need to go.

Great Page Jenny. I wondered how to use the little ribbon with staple and you showed a great example. Thanks so much.

Jenny, one more thing... Is the ribbon on one of the digital-scrapbook-memories cds?
I looked for a minute but then had to go.

Jamie, sorry it's not, I got it from a free kit from two peas in a bucket called "back to school". The papers, tag, overlay and buttons are from the Mood CD.

Okay... That's what i thought... but i wanted to double check... thanks
Alishaw,
I tried your tutorial. What if I just want to blend the bottom of the pic? Can I still do this and just move the fade down?

When you set up your gradient adjustment layer, change the Angle. A -90 will fade the bottom of the photo. Then with that window still open you can move the gradient so that it fades where you want it to and you don't lose any important parts of the picture.

You're Not A Dork!!! I'm so excited it worked. There's lots of fun things you can do with the gradient. When your layout is finished, post it so we can see!

DIgiferfer--I love the kindergarten page you made for April. How did you get the photo to have that look around the edge? I know how to do a stroke outline. Is it part of that?
