I personally am a little weird about old shoes/boots. I don't mind hand me down clothes but I do not like hand me down shoes. It ranks up there with not sharing underclothes. I only donate old shoes that I had bought and never wore much for whatever reason....we all have some of those ;) . This purge I found those 20!!!:o year old pull-on leather boots:

Not worn them for years, but there is no telling what lurks in those old boots (bacterias, fungi  ) . I think if shoes (especially boots) are really old, they are just plain old gross trash like old underclothes . Do you agree with me? Are those 20 year old leather boots donatable or de facto nasty, wortless crap for the trash bag? Maybe a stupid question but please answer :)
I know there is a charity going around that wants shoes for refugees. I think that they are looking for all kinds: work, play, kids, dress, etc. Anyone know anything about that? I can't remeber what it is called.

Jill, I think I still have the information they left on my door. I'll have to look...

Personally I wouldn't donate them! I agree you never know what is lurking in them. I think if I where going to donate to Green Eyes in Africa or any other place I'd go buy some new shoes for them. Am I weird?

I don't think I'd donate them unless there was a way to completely sterilize them without damaging them, because they are way cute... Does the stuff they spray into bowling shoes sanitize or sterilize?

I hate to be a negative Nellie, but I would give them a gentle "boot" into the trash bin (sorry about my sad sense of humour)! Here is why:
1. i remember those kind of boots from the late 80s, they were VERY uncomfortable
2. poor women in africa donīt need old uncomfortable boots
3. old boots contain bacterias, maybe foot fungus
4. the persons foot is NEVER shapes like yours and therefore can be unhealthy
Sorry, but I think in the case of those 20 year old "ankle breakers" the right answer is that they are regular household trash and NOT donation items. Does anyone agree with me on this? But it seems that I'm the only one with this point of view
