Where do you print your pictures? How do you like your prints?
I print either at home on my Epson R1800 or at Costco. I really like both. I know some Costco locations have better prints than others but the ones by me have been aweeome.
I like glossy paper at home and the lustre at Costco. I have wanted to try some other finishes for my home printing but haven't got around to it. I hate to spend $20 on a pack of paper just to try it. I've tried the matte at home and I don't like how dull the colors look on it so I've been sticking to glossy.
Ditto, April.
I print either at home on my Epson R1800 or at Sam's Club. At home, I'm sold on the Epson Premium Lustre Photo Paper. I have to order it from atlex.com because nobody stocks it here in the local area.
Any time I want standard sized prints (4X6, 5X7) I go to Sam's because it's way cheaper and I'm very stingy with my Epson Lustre paper. I use that for custom sizes.
Sometimes if I want more of a canvas look, I print at home using textured cardstock and tell my printer that I'm using matte paper. That works pretty well too, for a different look.

Oh cool. Lustre paper from Epson. If you like it I bet I will.
I print at home on my HP8750 and use mostly their soft gloss paper which I consider matte finish.
When I order out, I'm still favoring Adorama. I was really disappointed with scrapbookpictures.com

I like Mpix or WHCC. Or, for scrapbooking most of the time, I print at home. I do like Costco prints though, I realized that when I saw the prints you had made up at your Digital Scrapbook Memories Convention. They look gorgeous, but we don't have a Costco around here.
Speaking of Mpix, I just ordered an 11X14 print from them today using their special digital b&w photo paper. It's going to be framed and hanging in my kitchen, so I hope I like it.

I do love Mpix and WHCC for high-quality prints and alternate finishes. But mainly I use my Epson Photo R220 for 8x12 prints and smaller.
My photo prints are usually on the Premium Semigloss Photo Paper by Epson. Most others is on the Matte and occasionally I'll print on the gloss. But the semigloss is my absolute favorite.

I love the Glossy Paper from Epson and my r1800. : )
It is amazingly deep color.
But I think I'm going to order up some prints from Sam's in standard sizes for my paper scrapping and see how that looks to me.
It's been years since I've printed outside the house except for an enlargement that I did for Scott for Valetine's Day. I ordered a 20x30 print from Mpix and it's absolutely beautiful. : )

I am SUCH a scrooge when using my R1800! I love that printer and it kicks some serious butt with the right papers, but the ink and photo paper prices just kill me. So I'm really stingy. If I've got just a regular doc to print, or whatever, I use dh's computer and printer.
Why is it that I'll think nothing of buying a bottle of wine and spending $15-20, but when it comes to printer ink and photo paper, I'm a total Scrooge?

I print at home on my R800 with the Epson Premium Lustre paper. Love, love that paper. I've tried the glossy, but didn't like it. I don't have a local place that will print good consistent prints *sigh* I need to try out some of the nicer online printers. It seems I go thru ink like crazy.

I have a question. What does the baby mean, that is printed under some peoples user names? Some have new member or junior member? Just curious.

Does anyone get their inks refilled at refill places like Island Ink and does it affect the quality of your pictures that you print on Epson printers? I am just wondering because I have an Epson and I can't get a good print for the like of me. Of course I couldn't get a good print when I was not using the refill store and was just buying the Epson Ink. It is totally getting me down though because I bought my Epson because everything I read said that it was the best. Grrrrrr

The titles under peoples names change as you make more posts. It's a little inconsistant now because we changed some of the titles after some people registered. When you get to 30 posts your title will change.
On your printer ink... unfortunately, I too have learned the hard way that you never substitute ink or paper. If you buy an Epson printer use Epson ink and paper. I have found one paper place (I can't think of the name right now) that had great generic name paper but everything else I've tried is horrible on my Epson machine. Even Kodak is terrible on my Epson. It's not that the Kodak name is bad it's just it doesn't work on an Epson. I tried one generic ink and I was afraid it would ruin my machine forever so I've never tried generic inks again. The place you got your inks from might be ok for some printers but I wouldn't try it again on the Epson. Now you need to go buy all new Epson ink and clean the print heads a bunch of times until the old ink is completely out of the printer. Unfortunately it's going to cost you more than you want to pay but HOPEFULLY your printer will be ok after you are done. Mine was.
I think I have more print tips on the tips page (see the link in the nav bar at the top). Good luck and welcome to the board.

I use WHCC.

Another one for WHCC here... I've used them for several years now. I would love to have a home printer just to print something quick when I'm in a pinch, but I would still do my main printing through WHCC. Added bonus... now that we're in Chicago instead of Texas... my WHCC order comes the next day instead of two days!

I print most of my pics intended for scrapbooking at home. I'm on the advisory board for Spaark Industries (sister company to the makers of the fabulous Purple Cow cutter) and they make an awesome photo paper. I'm a satin finish kinda girl...and this paper is the perfect!
If I want photos for home or samples for my photography business I print at Costco. You can't beat the price and with the exception of one mistake that they quickly rectified...I've had great quality from them!

If you want to try out MPIX, their 4x6 prints are only 19Cents right now... : )

Scrapbookpictures.com is GREAT. I also love Costco. I print at home when I have to but I don't have a fancy-enough printer to print at home on a regular basis. I like the flexibility it gives in printing any and all sizes, but I don't like the quality as well.

Another Epson Premium Lustre lover here! I only have the R320, but it prints better quality prints than any online place I've ever used. Although for bulk orders, I like mpix and scrapbookpictures.com (although scrapbookpictures.com does horrible b&w pics in my opinion). I've used WHCC as well, but it's a bit more expensive.

I print at home. It's an HP, so I use HP Photo Paper & HP Ink. I can refill my black myself 2 or 3 times before I have to purchase a new one. But the color, forget it. I tried to refill it one time and made an unholy mess. So I purchase the refilled ones and it does fine.
This printer is not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. It's a HP Deskjet v40. I actually has a fatal flaw and could stop working at any moment. I read (after I bought it) that the little plastic piece that picks up the paper just stops working after a while. I figured I'd keep using it until it stopped working. That was 4 years ago!
Sometimes I have 4x6s printed at Walgreen's or Wal-Mart if I need a bunch. Like Barb said, it costs quite a bit to print a lot of 4x6s at home!

April have you ever tried printing on art papers? I love printing on coated water color. There is a place online that is great because you can buy sample packs to try things out instead of buying a whole box of something and not liking it. It's inkjetmall.com and it's actually based in Salt Lake. I've heard Rhonna mention them to and I know that she also prints on a lot of art paper.

I always print at home with my HP 8750. I use the HP premium soft gloss or Ilford pearl paper. Love the outcome of both. I gave up having my photos printed elsewhere because I was never happy with them.

And I was wondering if anyone has done research into how much it is to cost to print at home (with paper, ink, approx. wear and tear)? I figure to print an 8x8 at home is about the same price as printing at Costco for $1.50. Anyone tried to really figure it out?
April

For me, an 8x11.5 was about a dollar with paper and ink. I'm sure it varies depending on printers and ink though.
I am VERY happy to report that Staples high gloss paper works GREAT in my Epson R1800. I'm thrilled because it's a lot cheaper.

I only print at Inkleys (might be Wolf camera in your area).
Walmart, Costco, and Sam's Club have all lost so many of prints and have ruined so much of my film by not cleaning their machines it just wasnt worth the hassle. Plus my lab tech has been working at inkleys for over 20 years and she is simply amazing!!!
I mostly use there online ordering service and i can do all the same edits on my home computer as at the store, and their 4x6's are 19cents.
Plus the staff really knows there stuff.
As of right now their online 4x6's are 16 cents...
