My wonderful husband just gave me the good news that I will be getting a new camera for my birthday later this month. Love this guy.

Anyway, I have been using a Canon Digital Rebel (300D) for the last 3 1/2 years. I love this camera and have really enjoyed experimenting with the different modes. I primarily shoot in AV (aperture priority) mode. My favorite lens is my 50mm f1.4 . Use it ALL the time. I assumed that I would get the Digital Rebel XTi when it came time to upgrade. But when I saw all you 20D and 30D folks posting in the other thread I thought I might be missing the boat here. Do tell . . .

As an amateur photographer (o.k. so I have been paid in gift cards before, but I am far from professional LOL :p ), would you recommend that I stick with the XTi? If not, what are the benefits that I would gain for the price difference?

Thanks a zillion!

I can't really answer your question but I've read the responses to this question a bunch of times on another board. All the girls there say the 30D is worth the money and have convinced me that is what I want. Why it's better I'm not sure. www.dpreview.com has this cool comparison chart for a huge selection of cameras. I would compare the two side by side and see what you think. Hopefully the other girls will tell you their opinions here too.

How fun, Connie!!!!

One of the best reasons that I can think of for getting the 30D instead of the XTi is the available ISO range on the 30D. I've seen pics taken at 3600 ISO that are beautiful!!!!! The XT series cameras have a ton of grain at any ISO higher than 400. To me, that's worth the difference right there. With higher ISOs, you're going to be able to get much better indoor shots!

All I know is that I love my 20D. : ) If I were buying a camera right now, I'd go for the 30D. It's a great camera with plenty of learning room without being too spendy... : )

I have the 20D, but would recommend the 30D for someone who is upgrading.
