April I am trying to use the filmstrips from the flower patch CD in layout 4. I watched the video and read the written instructions but I am still having problems. When I put my picture inside the filmstrip, I make sure I am on the filmstrip layer, click the magic wand, inverse, delete then I lose my whole filmstrip. This is what the directions say to do! I tried doing the same thing only having my picture layer selected, but then when I use the magic wand tool it only selects a portion of my picture, like the face or something. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to get rid of the extra little part of my picture so only the part in the filmstrip will show. Can you help?

Robin... I'm not April... but this is what i do...

If i'm using a frame or anything that goes in front a a picture and you want to delete part of it i just delete the part of the picture. Zoom in so you can get it good.

I'm sure April will post on how to help you... but that's my Quick Fix

I make sure I am on the filmstrip layer, click the magic wand, inverse, delete then I lose my whole filmstrip. After you select inverse you have to choose your picture layer again and then delete. So... have your filmstrip layer selected first while you are selecting the section then when you are ready to delete make sure you switch back to your picture. That's it!

April when I do that it says I can because the "smart object is not editable" so you know what that means?

Thank you Jamie! I am going to try that too! Do I use just like a marquee tool for that?

I use the erase tool to delete what I don't need. if you want to make a straight line though make sure you are holing the shift key down while your dragging the eraser around the picture.

Hummm... somehow you changed it into a smart object. I haven't used those so I'd have to research how to change that back to a regular layer. Did you clip another paper to the frame before all of this?

I know it will be an easy fix once we figure it out.

I did clip another paper to the filmstrip like you show us to on that tutorial to turn the filstrip the color of the paper that I wanted. Is that the problem?

Not really. Somewhere in the process though you turned the layer into a smart object which is really a cool thing if you use it the right way. I can't help now but maybe tomorrow.

FYI I think I figured out what happened. I have NO idea what a smart object is, but when I was dragging pictures to the filmstrip (since there was 12) I just dragged them from my project bin rather then double click on the gray and open each one. That must be what did it. Thanks for working with me though!
