Hi Staci! Welcome!

The options bar is above the main workspace. You'll know where it is after you start clicking on different tools in the toolbox because the options will change for each tool. In 5.0 make sure that you are in the full edit section. Ask more questions if you need. You can see some pictures here of a different version of PS. (http://www.digitalscrapbookmemories.com/tips/understandingThePhotoshopWorkspace.asp) It's not the exact same in 5.0 but very close.

Find the history pallette by clicking on Windows (in the drop down menu) then click history or undo history. Read all the options under windows - it's there somewhere but might be lower down than expected.

Again, keep asking questions!

I feel so dumb. I have tried this. I followed the websit. How do I know if it is in full edit section? I have looked in window section and it is no where. Do I need a better ps (updated one)?

Have you tried clicking on WINDOW>HISTORY. Is there a check mark next to certain word in the WINDOW drop down menu? If there is a check mark next to History than it should be up on your screen. :) Also, what options are you looking for? The tools that should be lined up on the left side of your screen?
I hope this helps. I think everyone that knows the details of what you are asking is sleeping. hahaha. There are only a few midnight lurkers. :)
Oh, and happy to have you here, no question is dumb.

No, what you have is plenty good. Close photoshop and reopen it. When you get all the first options choose "edit and enhance photos" or something close to that. then when you get to the work screen look on the top left for "full edit". It's a tab somewhere near the top. If you still can't figure it out I'll post screen shots for you tomorrow. I promise if you stick with this it will get easier and easier.

Still can't figure it out. Also when I click on a tool it doesn't show the options bar. I am so sorry. Do I really need these? Staci

How many tools do you see Staci? That will tell me which mode you are in? The spot April is talking about is the top left under the File, Edit, Image, Enhance drop down menus. There is a Full Edit and Quick Fix tabs. You want Full Edit.

I think 26. I counted every tool.

I found 2 (in the tools). 1 edit in standard mode and 2 edit in quick mask mode. That is all I could find with edit.

Oh, Oh, an idea! Do you have Photoshop Elements 5.0 or plain Photoshop 5.0?

Stacy, I'm sorry I forgot to post these yesterday. They only apply to Elements 5.0, not the regular Photoshop 5.0.

One thing I don't show below is the HISTORY in Elements is called UNDO HISTORY so if you look under windows you need to look towards the bottom for UNDO HISTORY, not just history.

When you first open Photoshop 5.0 (not all versions have this screen) you'll click on Edit and Enhance Photos

The next two pictures are the same, just one is a close up:

No problem. The options bar is still in the same place, directly above the work area. The history can be found the same way by clicking Windows>History (or Undo History). It should actually be easier to help you with the program you have because I have it all memorized. Have you figured it out better? Maybe you could post some screen shots or e-mail me screen shots.

I think I found the problem...I have a limited edition photo shop. Does that make a difference?

Do I need to buy another photo shop? Maybe elements?
