View Full Version : July Stars & Stripes Challenge
Quinn

July's Challenge is to make a LO that has a plain white background & uses stars or stripes within the embellishing. If you're like me, I get in a rut of choosing background paper & thinking of embellishing last. This challenge might be a stretch, but have fun with it! My example LO will be coming soon...

embellishments are the hardest things for me. I am going to give this a try. thanks Quinn for the challenge.

Here's mine. Designing around your white background really makes you think harder about colors & white (empty) space. Hope you guys enjoy this challenge! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Way cute Quinn! I love the layout and the binki! My twins also "had" to have them after being at PCMC! That was before Walmart carried them. I had to order them in BULK and we used them up! Thanks for the challenge! I'll get working!

When you said "stars & stripes" I immediately thought of the 4th of July - so here's my page on that theme! I cheated a little and put a white-ish paper as my background, so my frames would stand out and I just liked it better that way! It was fun doing all the embellishing on this!
(everything I used is from a kit by Redju Scraps, font is GG Leslie)

Quinn your page is great... when you said stars and stripes... red white and blue came to mind.. must be the season ..
Lynette I love the fireworks on yours..
I went with the red white and blue theme as well... stripes and the Bandana paper are from the Seasons/July 4th CD .. Stars I drew myself.

wow! Great takes on the challenge, Lynnette & Dottie!!! Your LOs look fabulous with really good use of white space. Your elements & photos really shine! You guys crack me up. I intended for the theme to go along with the 4th but wanted my LO to show that it didn't have to involve red, white & blue. You both did perfectly!!! Thanks for participating! xoxo
p.s. Dottie, I totally am there with you on the spending holidays mostly behind the camera!

Quinn-what a funny story. Those green binkies are huge.
Lynette-love the swirls and the fireworks.
Dottie-great stars! I can't draw anything in photoshop that doesn't look like a scribble.
This challenge helped me scrap some pictures I've been wanting to scrap for awhile, but didn't know what exactly to do with them. Here's my LO.

Dottie, I love the hand drawn stars. The whole page is so cute!
Robin, I love how you arranged your embellishments, and the B&W pics with just the red hat in color really draws your attention to the pictures.

Here's my page for the challenge. I need to explain the pictures in case you can't read the journaling. My brother-in-law is a pilot and he flies over the parade route and drops ping pong balls. The kids can redeem the balls for prizes at the carnival after the parade. All papers and embellishments by redju scraps. Fonts are maiandra GD and MS Dialog.

In your photoshop document: Go file>save for web. It will tell you that the size of your layout exceeds the limit, but just hit ok anyway. Then over on the right size change the size of your layout to 600X600. That should make your page the right size. Then save (i usually label it low res-so that I don't confuse it with the high resolution original). I have a folder on my desktop for all the low res layouts that way it is easy to find them when i want to post. Hope this makes sense. :)

Amaris, that's very impressive for you first page! I love the way you did the shooting stars. Was that an element, or did you figure out a way to get it to look like that in elements?
Kmsarles, I really love those pictures! And your composition is great!!

Kmsarles, I really love those pictures! And your composition is great!!
The Shooting Stars were graphics that came with PSE 6 when I got it That whole page was done with what came with PSE 6 between background of none, layout I picked from theres, graphics, shapes and then I inserted the text at the bottom.
Thanks hopefully the class will help me out even more. I have to learn how to install some actions I just got and some sets I have of things to put in it any help would be greatly appreciated.

Amaris, I think there is a new thread about installing actions on elements. Maybe that will help you figure it out. I love actions...especially the photo actions that help me look like a better photographer. :D

Here's mine. I haven't done any digital scrapbooking for a few months. I tore the ligament in the lowest disk in my back, so I'm laid up for a few weeks and I plan on getting a lot of scrapbooking done. I thought the challenge would be a good place to start, that way I wouldn't have to think too much about what I wanted to do. (My brain is a little fogged on all the meds I'm taking. I hate that feeling.)
Anyway, here it is. If you have any suggestions, feel free to share!

Amaris, fabulous 1st LO!!! Looks awesome! You're totally on your way & I'm so excited that you did this challenge! Challenges really help all of us improve our skills! Keep playing! xoxo
Kelly, I love your use of white space! I think the left-justification is fabulous! Those photos are so fun! Truly a great LO!!! I think I might have to scraplift it, if you don't mind.
Amy, your LO is so fun! That photo is adorable! They look like the happiest kids on the planet! I love the strips used for journaling, too. Great job & happy healing to you! ouch!!!
Kelli, sometimes when LO's are kept simple, it's best. Honestly, I love how your LO came together! It really makes the photo shine. I think this is a LO to print & use as wall art in your home. Beautiful work & ESPECIALLY (you know I'd notice!) FANTASTIC typography!!! Yay!!!
Kelli, beautiful layout. I love simple layouts. By the way, you and your hubby are way cute together and you are beautiful (can I say that?) I love the red hair.
