View Full Version : Can babies get the stomach flu?
Lucy is almost 8 months and has been throwing up a lot more than usual. It has been going on for the past day or two. My question... can babies get the stomach flu?

Yup they can. I would take her in. Poor little thing.

I would take her in too. SHe could easily get dehydrated because of throwing up in addition to the heat.

It could be that or has there been a change in the food that you are giving? Maybe there is an allergy to something?

i think they can, too. if she's still having wet diapers every 6-8hrs then she's getting enough fluids.. never hurts to take her in.
So, I called and for future reference this is what you do.
Take them off formula or breast milk for 8-10 hours and give them a tablespoon of pedialite every half hour. If they can keep that down, slowly up the amount until they are drinking a good few ounces. Then give them a little bit of formula/breastmilk along with the pedialite, increasing the milk and decreasing the other until they are back to normal amounts. If they can't keep the pedialite down for more than the 8-10 hours, take them in. THey can dehydrate really quickly. Their litttle bodies don't have much reserves.
Whew... that was a mouthfull.
She seems to be feeling a little better, but still grumpy.
Thanks for the great advice ladies! I can always count on you guys.:cheer:
Jill, Glad to hear Lucy is feeling better. It's sure not fun when your baby is sick.

When my little guy was one, he HATED pedialite, so they told me to give him gatorade. He threw up for over a week and they finally gave him a suppository. He stopped throwing up immediately!
I hope she is feeling better. I hate when little kids throw up.

My son didn't like Pedialyte either. Gerber makes a powder that you mix with water that is like Pedialyte but he thought it was juice and drank it. Apparently it tastes better.
