View Full Version : Journaling Challenge: Write a letter

Your challenge: create a layout where your journaling is in the form of a letter. The letter could be to anyone - even yourself. Or even from anyone, it might be fun to write the letter from the perspective of a child or someone else. My layout is a letter from myself to my husband, focusing on how proud I am of his accomplishments, paired with a photo of us from his recent graduation. You can see it here (http://forum.digitalscrapbookmemories.com/album.php?albumid=10&pictureid=647). I kept this layout fairly simple so that the journaling would really take center stage. I'd love to see what everyone else can do with this!

Madeline, that is a great layout, something that I think you'll both cherish forever!
Jaime, stunning way of using the gray, black and white with just a touch of color. I love it!

Both of these are great. Madeline I love all the pink (probably because I never use pink) and this is such a cute memory. Jamie what a thoughtful page. I think this way of journaling really gets you speaking from the heart!

I have the perfect layout that I did for Grace's Scrapbook! (Yes, I know, it's still not done!) I'll have to post it soon! I bet you all can't wait to see it! ;) Rats! I have to go searching for the credits though; I forgot to credit while I was putting the page together!

Okay, here (http://forum.digitalscrapbookmemories.com/album.php?albumid=19&pictureid=667)you go! I'll be doing one too, to put in her scrapbook. I'm so excited only my journal page and the front and back cover of the book and I'm DONE! YAY!
BTW, this is what the journaling says:
March 17, 2007
Dear Grace,
I am writing you this letter as I sit in a hospital room with your mother who is in labor, waiting to give birth to you. My heart is full of so many feelings that I want to share with you. First and foremost, I want you to know how much your mother has done for you. These 9 months of pregnancy have not been easy on her. (Don’t feel bad, this isn’t your fault!) Even though these long months have been a trial for her, nothing compares to what she is going through now during this labor. (Don’t feel bad, this isn’t your fault either!) Your mother has
endured these trials and pains because she loves you so much. As I’m sure you well know by now, there is nothing more important to your mother than your happiness and safety. Please show her all the respect that she deserves. Listen to her. Follow her example.
Of course, as I hope you also know by now, I love you! I am so excited to welcome you into this world. I’ve not even met you yet and still I feel such and incredible loving bond towards you. I hope as you grow up you will realize that the things I do, I do out of love for you. I want to protect you from all that is bad or
hurtful in this world. I want you to always feel like you can talk to me about
anything.
Finally, above all, your mother and I are hopeful that you will embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ as we teach it to you. This is our greatest hope because we know it can bring you the greatest blessing and happiness in your life. As you follow the teachings of our Savior, you will feel his love for you. You will be entitled to the protection that our Heavenly Father offers to those who are
obedient. Above all, you will have peace and happiness in your heart and in your life through this righteous living.
In closing, I’d like to share just a few random thoughts with you. First, I hope you will be a good example to your friends and family. Always strive to choose the right, but when you do make a mistake, repent of it quickly. Second, as I previously stated, please give your mother all the respect that she deserves. You should treat her the best you possibly can. Third, stay away from those things which would harm your spirit. Finally, never forget that your mother and I love you with all our hearts. This is something that will never, ever change!
With all the love of a father,
Dad

I would love to do this challenge but I have been so totally uncreative that I might have to be SUPER late and bring the thread up again when i get one done. I love the idea of this though.

How can Shane not be tender looking at precious Caulen? I love it when a man is sentimental. Nice page.

So, I'm a little slow on this one. I have been thinking about it a lot and have been trying to do more journaling in all of my pages. I really think it makes a huge difference. I did this page today. I'm working on an album of our trip to San Francisco. I want to get it made into a bound book and give it to each of my kids and hubby for Christmas. I better hurry!
Anyway, I got a little too sentimental and was bawling while I did this page, but I think that makes it more from the heart, don't you? I have a bad headache, but that's OK.
Btw, does anyone know how long it takes to get a bound book made?

Great job Amy! This is so sweet. I really like how you emphasized some of the words by highlighting them like that. I just ordered a bound book not too long ago, I think it took about a week and a half from the time I submitted my online order until it came in the mail.

Thanks Lynnette. I've been worried that it will take 6 or 8 weeks to get it back and I have been stressing! What company did you go through? You may have posted it somewhere else, so sorry if you have. I'm hoping to get it all done by next week, if I really push through, so that should give plenty of time to have it back by Christmas.

I used winkflash. I would like to try some others but I haven't had a chance yet. You could probably find out how long it will take by visiting different sites.
