This month's challenge is to focus on your typography! Yay! As many of you know I'm nuts about typography. I look for good examples everywhere. Some of my favorite inspiration has been from billboards on the freeway. How companies use all the aspects of typography (text, font, spacing, placement, color, etc.) can make or break how easy their name/logo is to read, how it catches your eye & if you remember it later.

Your challenge - should you dare to take it - is to get inspired by any typography you see around you & create a stunning title for your next layout. No digital alphas can be used: fonts only.

When posting your layout, please include where the inspiration came from. If you need some fun ideas to get you started, I love the "ilovetypography.com (http://ilovetypography.com/)" website. Check out their wallpaper section (http://ilovetypography.com/love/). Or even start noticing the typography used with business names. Our very own DSM logo can be very inspiring for title-work on a LO.

Here's my LO/example. I found the inspiration in the wallpaper section in the "i Love typography" website. So fun! Credits: Digital Scrapbook Memories "The Playground" (papers), "In the Mood" (date stamp); Template by Shandy Vogt; Fonts: Adobe Caslon Pro, Calisto MT, Bodoni Hand

So cute Quinn! I love how 99.9% of all you pages has a great journal entry type deal! I have to get better at that.

Quinn i love that page and I love how your boy is holding the baby in the sling. That is so precious.

Here's my version, I used my new CD In The Mood, Kit Playful. Word Art inspired by Dare 2 B U kit @ Digitalfreebies.com (http://digitalfreebies.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3405)

This is my 14yr old son BTW. He just got back from being gone all summer. He grew 4" on me and is now a whopping 6'1". Did I mention he's 14?

Ok, dumb question probably, but what is typography? From looking at your page I am guessing using more than one font, size or style...maybe? Am I close?

Typography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typography) is the art and techniques of arranging type, type design, and modifying type glyphs. Type glyphs are created and modified using a variety of illustration techniques. The arrangement of type involves the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing), letter-spacing (tracking) and kerning.

This is a great challenge Quinn. I was thinking we should do a typography challenge, and I should have known you would be on top of it even before the idea was in my head. I definitely want to participate in this one. Your page is so great and so is cjoytoday's page. Love the titles!!

More on typography from wikipedia: "In traditional typography, text is composed to create a readable, coherent, and visually satisfying whole that works invisibly, without the awareness of the reader." "Display typography is a potent element in graphic design, where there is less concern for readability and more potential for using type in an artistic manner. Type is combined with negative space, graphic elements and pictures, forming relationships and dialog between words and images."

I LOVE fonts! I have 437! (I just counted them. I had NO IDEA I had so many!) I love all the pages with cursive type on top of block type. So this isn't inspired by anything in particular, just a style.

Excellent typography, Kelli! That cracks me up that you struggled to find cowgirl stuff. Since it's not tough to find out here, Germany seems a long way away. She looks fabulous, though! Love the LO.

BTW>>>> how do you make links and name it something? Like for example... here

montmeag

Jamie, just type the word out (i.e. here), highlight it and then hit the link button (the planet-looking thing). A dialogue button will pop up and that's where you put the address. I didn't know how either until someone else here (Alyson?) told me.:)

Dottie, how come we are not friends--I thought we were:). I went into view your page and it said I was not allowed.

I don't know how to run this new forum, so I'll leave that up to you on sending me a request to be your friend because I would love to view your layout. Thanks.
