Ok, I know a lot of you make your LOs 12x12 and print 8x8. I am wondering about how many pics you can get on a page without needing a magnifying glass to see the faces and what's a good way to judge if it's too small to be seen well. Also, on a regular LO I would keep my journaling font size about 12-15. I am assuming that would be too small if you resized to 8x8 so what size do you use. I did 8.5x11 when I did paper so I started with that in digi, too. My most recent LOs have been 12x12 but I don't want to print that big. I just need to figure out what I'm going to do before I get to much further. Comments? Ideas? Suggestions?

I print 8x8 and I have been happy with the results. I do make sure my fonts are never less than size 18, but it does depend on the font - some are a really small at 18 and some are really big, so I just eyeball it. As far as the pictures go, I don't really follow any "rules" as to how small I go, I just guess. One thing you can do to check what it will look like printed is to open your finished page (in .jpeg form), select your crop tool and set it to 8 inches by 8 inches, and crop the whole page. Then go View>Print Size and it will display it as it will look printed. Hope that helps!

I was going to suggest the View>Print Size option as well. I do that all the time to make sure my font isn't too small or too big. I print some of my pages 6X6 for my sister and I always use this to make sure the journaling is readable.

I love making my layouts 8.5x11--they fit in the sheet protectors perfect along with all the rest of the stuff my kids receive that are usually on 8.5x11 paper. It all looks nice and tidy in their binders/albums. Just my preference.

i also print 8x8 and haven't had any problems seeing faces... i usually scrap viewing the entire LO on my monitor, though, which is big enough to see if actually 8x8 so it's sort of like real-time...

I create 12x12 and print 8x8 and haven't had any problems. I've never gone lower than 12 pt font. I printed some of my pages 4x4 for a hybrid project and they looked just as great as the 12x12.

Most of my layouts (quick page templates) are in the 12x format. I always print them in an 8x Shutterfly book. Looks awesome.

The faces are not usually the problem - it's compensating for the font resizing -- don't make journaling too small!!!

Well, if you think about it mathematically, you are shrinking a 12x12 down to 8x8, which is 66.67 percent (8 divided by 12). So if you have a 12 point font, it will look like an 8 point font (12 x 66.67%) in an 8x8 print. A 14 point font would look like a 9.33 point font. What do you need to make it look like a 12 point font? An 18 point font (18 x 66.67%) = 12. Hope this helps!

Shelley, I didn't follow the math, but I trust you! :) Thanks for explaining that.

Hey girls, you are welcome (the math was the computer nerd coming out in me!) ... and no, I didn't have an avatar before. It took me 49 years to even find a photo of me ... you know how it is, "I can't do that one cuz I have a double chin, etc." I still don't like the one I used, so if I change it, don't be surprised!

That's cuz I Photoshopped it out ... just kidding! So anyway, to get back on topic, I have been designing my layouts 12x12 and haven't printed any of them yet because I'm still trying to decide what size I want to do. 12x12 is too big for me, and I don't have the storage space. 8x8 seems a little too small. Is there anything in between? Do you think any companies will ever have 10x10 printing services and albums? Are there some available right now?

I think 10X10 would be perfect, too! I am almost done with our trip to San Francisco this Summer and want to have it done in a bound book but I'm torn as to what size to do. 12x12 does seem too big, especially for a trip, but 8x8 just seems too small. If anyone knows of a place that will do 10x10, let me know. I haven't found one yet, but maybe ther is somewhere out there that does! (I hope, I hope).

I don't know of any 10x10. I know of 10x8 but not square. Sorry. That's why I've been debating 8x8 or just stick with 8.5x11 and maybe turn them horizontal. That might make it a little easier to get more on them and feel like they flow better.

I never thought of a 10x10, that would be awesome. I wonder if a binding company would do 101x10?
