I know I have used the custom shape tool before in Elements 4.0. All of a sudden I don't have it anymore. At least I can't find it. I have the cookie cutter tool, but not the custom shape thing. I know it looks like a bubble thing that you would put what a person is saying in it. My tools use to be in a long line down the side and then I must have bumped something because now they are in two columns and don't go all the way down the side. Can someone please tell me what I have done and where my custom shape tool went. Maybe I am up in the night, but I could have sworn I had one.

Right click all your shapes and make sure one of the other tools that is with that button isn't selected. Does that make sense? In the same button with the custom shape tool you should also have rectangle tool, elipse tool, line tool, and I think a couple others. Also, if your tool bar used to be all vertical, you might try to hover over one side and see if you get an arrow. You might be able to stretch it out more. Are any other tools missing?

I have Elements 4.0.
Okay so I am really missing more than I thought I was. I don't have the rectangle tool, elipse tool, line tool. I am pretty sure I use to have those too. I can't figure out where they could have gone.

Brittany, have you done any updates lately? I get automatic updates for Photoshop that pop-up when I open it. An up date could be the reason the look of you tool bar has changed. I don't know for sure though.
Here's a suggestion to find your custom shape, line, rectangle tool. In my version typing 'u' will select that tool. Hopefully they haven't changed it since Elements 4.0. So try hitting the 'u' button and see if it selects any of the tools on your tool bar. If it does, right click on that tool and you will probably find the missing tools there.

the other thing you can do is reset all your tools Brit by choosing one (say the crop tool) and then there is an arrow at the far left of the options bar that says Reset Tool or Reset All Tools. Maybe try that!
