I'm excited to announce that the Digital Scrapbook Memories Retreat will be held at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center (http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/SLCCCHH-Hilton-Salt-Lake-City-Center-Utah/index.do)on May 7-9, 2009. You can come one day (Saturday) or all three. This Hilton hotel is GORGEOUS!!! You guys are going to love it. I did an Expedia and Hilton website search for the room rates and the cheapest rooms were $259 a night. Fortunately, I was able to negotiate a much better price and I'll pass those savings on to each of you.
Registration will begin November 3, 2008. Remember the guest rooms sold out last year so plan on signing up early. I'll have a special early bird offer available on November 3rd.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/oakapr/pricingEB.jpg
* Guest rooms for the retreat packages highlighted in orange are based on double occupancy. We will contact you to see who you want your roommate to be. We will not assign roommates. Your roommate must also pay.
What were your favorite parts of the retreat last year? I want to make sure we do them again!

YA! I'm excited, now the waiting is the hard part.
I agree with LucyLu, I liked learning new advanced techniques, taking home hybrid projects, the disc with the classroom projects plus the new CD (Family Ties), and the gift bag. There wasn't anything that I did not like, it was great.

:( i really realllly want to come. but i totally definitely cannot!!
3 reasons why i can't:

Back to the subject of this thread...I'm so excited about the retreat! I've stayed in this hotel and it is super nice!! I'm hoping to come for the whole retreat this year. Friday night and Saturday was not enough for me. :D I'm hoping to get to hang out with everyone more too!!

Hello! This is too cool. I am excited for the retreat. I love sitting. I love talking. I love socializing. I love digital scrapbooking. I love April being so awesome and giving us goodie bags.
By way of what I liked last year. I liked the free time too. I LOVE learning, but I don't retain as well (is that an indication of my age?) unless I have a little time to play around with it. Plus, actual free time to do some of the many projects I have is cool. This is not at all to say that I don't want to learn. I loved the classes that included a project too. Hmmm.... I also loved sleeping in my own bed and not having to wake up for kiddos in the night. This is probably not really what you were looking for, was it April? I loved not having to cook dinner too. I will stop with that.
Anyway, yeah for us!! I will be there.

Gina! Hee hee! :) I like your reasons.
It sure was fun last time. I agree, a little bit of free time to work on the projects would be great, so that more completed projects can be taken home if possible. Because if anyone is like me, it is hard to actually finish something once I get home. :)
April
10-09-2008, 02:15 PM
Gina, your reasons are so similar to mine!!
There will definately be free time this year. It will be assisted free time so you can ask all sorts of questions. I have a chunk of time set aside for this on both Friday and Saturday.

I’m a little confused about the chart. So, the price is at the beginning (obviously).. does that price include all the x’s, or is it that much per x? Such as $99 for Friday and $99 for Saturday; or is it $99 total for Friday and Saturday? Same for the bottom; is the $399 for Thursday-Saturady classes and the rooms, or is it $399 per night?
I hope my question makes sense and I’m not confusing you more.. Thanks..
April
10-11-2008, 12:11 AM
Crystal, someone else told me the chart was confusing too. Do all of you feel that way? I'll write out the details eventually.
For every price listed you can scan the row to see what is included in that price. Anything with an X is included in the price for that row.
For example, for $99 you get everything on that row marked with an X. So, $99 would include the Friday night and Saturday classes.
$399 includes all of the classes and a private room on Thursday and Friday nights. A private room means you have your own hotel room and you can bring anyone you want to stay with you for no extra charge. That extra person would not be allowed in the classes though.
A room based on double occupancy means that is the price you pay for the room and classes if someone else also pays that price and shares your room.

This sounds like so much fun! Do you need a laptop to attend or are computers provided?

I am not sure what April is doing this year. Last year you had to have a laptop, but you could rent one from her.

I understood the chart, so I think it's ok, especially with the later explanation. I'm so excited!
My favorite things last year were the projects (book, screen saver...) and spending time with all the girls that I love, AND meeting new friends. I can't wait till this year!

This sounds like so much fun! Do you need a laptop to attend or are computers provided? You need to bring a computer or rent one. Unfortunately renting one is expensive so try to find one to borrow if you need to.

ok so i looked at the retreat chart and it doesn't have a price for all day friday, saturday and double occupancy room for friday night.. or maybe it does.. Im not sure.. HELP I can add an option for that. To go to classes all day Friday and Saturday and only stay one night (Friday night) it will cost $244, based on double occupancy. If you want a private room the same option will cost $299.
Unfortunately, you can't attend Thursday night's classes unless you stay both nights. The Thursday night classes are bonus classes for the people who stay the entire weekend. Also, in case anyone wonders, there will not be an option for attending Friday classes alone. If you want to come to the classes on Friday, you will also have to pay for Saturday.

can you tell me how much the room rate is?
April
10-13-2008, 02:02 PM
Some of the prices above DO INCLUDE the room.
You can check on the Hilton website if you want to get a room directly from Hilton. www.hilton.com The rates I'm offering are pretty incredible compared to what you'd pay otherwise but I'm not offering a room only price. Note: We are staying at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center.
April
10-13-2008, 02:07 PM
I can get a discount on the room rate for three days before and after the event. If you want to stay longer let me know. The room rate will be about $129 for any day before or after.

April - I really, really want to come to the retreat! Your info said guest rooms sold out last year and I have some serious planning to do if I'm really going to try to come all the way from Iowa! I know I'd want the whole package because if I'm coming that far, I want to learn as much as I can. Do you get many out-of-staters? Would I be the only older grandma there? I'm going to discuss this with my dh because I wouldn't want to drive all that way by myself so he'd have to agree to come and spend his time on the local golf courses while I'm in scrapbook heaven.
Hungry for more information! Judy

Hey, why are you worried about being an older grandma??! We don;t care about age here! As long as you like to scrapbook or at least want to like it, you're in! We'll see you there!

10-14-2008, 09:25 AM
jcdsmith, Robin is right! We love everyone here!! Come and enjoy yourself with some fabulous women! I went last year and had a BLAST!!
April
10-14-2008, 10:55 AM
Hey Judy! Last year we only had a handful of "out-of-staters" but I know we'll have quite a few more this year. Other people here may find it fun to know that I bumped into two of the "out-of-staters" in Chicago last July! I was shocked to see them again! Isn't that fun? It was Lewanda and Anna. Do you guys remember them? They sat on the back row last year. It was so much fun to see them. I bumped into them at a Craft show out there.
Anyway... back to Judy... You won't be the only grandma there. There are a lot of people that come that are what I would consider to be "younger" grandmas (50s and 60s). The group on this message board has been really fun because we all seem to get along real well, whether we are young, middle aged or older. If you participate on this forum and try to get to know people here I think you'll have even more fun when you come because people will be anxious to meet you.
A great website for planning your trip to Utah is www.Utah.com Ask us questions about Utah too, I'm sure a lot of us would LOVE to help you.

Judy,
something that I found amazing last year was that we were all so different but we loved each other so much (especially for meeting many for the first time) I agree with April, play with us on the forum and we will all get to know each other and age, race, you name it really doesn't matter. we all make friends easy here!

I think you guys are totally awesome. Here I am out in the cornfields of Iowa but you are making me feel like I can attend this retreat and be right at home. I have my dh interested in the trip - however, we'd both prefer to travel by motorcycle but early May might be too early to come across the Rockies. We will probably come by car because then he can bring his golf clubs and I can bring my laptop with no worries. As it is currently looking, I am starting the serious planning of coming to the retreat. DH is being very supportive.
Just to give you guys more info about me - I'm 65 yrs young, retired, have 3 girls and 6 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to 26 yrs old.
PS: I don't really live in a cornfield - I'm a city girl.

Judy, it's so fun to learn more about you. It would be so much fun to have you at the retreat.
Kpgambill and natalielebaron, it's fun to hear from you too. Welcome to the forum!! Natalie, the day after the retreat is Mother's Day so if you have kids you could justify the retreat twice. You could say it's a birthday and Mother's day present. Is your birthday in May or about registration time?

I loved last year! Even though I had NO idea what the forum even was, and the first class everyone seemed to already know each other. I couldn't figure out what was going on! I just barely started digiscrap'n again and just started checking the forum out and its so fun to see faces and know who you are! It'll be so fun to come to the retreat again. April can you put 4 in a room??

April can you put 4 in a room?? Yes, but the hotel will charge you a little more. I'll work on explaining that a bit more later but anyone who wants a private room can have anyone they want in their room (up to 4).

Yes, the store is exciting to me. I have so many plans. The hybrid projects and photo overlays are soooo cool! I wish they were ready now.
April, I was just jumping aboard last year and missed the retreat and really want to come this time. I was wondering if you know what classes are going to be taught on Thursday-Saturday before I decide. I do not need the beginner classes. I am trying to juggle work schedule and would like (if you can) to know what days what the classes will be. I know this is a BIG request and I am sorry. I am self employed and when I am not there I still have to pay for my day. Thanks so much for your help!

What classes will be held each day? I am interested, but not sure if it would be more of a beginner's thing or more advanced? Are there different ones for those using photoshop elements and CS programs? Let me know!

Trieste, I didn't get to go last year but from what I understand there will be beginner classes as well as more advanced classes. It shouldn't matter what version of PS you have, Alisha has them all and can tell you the differences between versions of how you do things. I'm really hoping to go this spring.

I was wondering if you know what classes are going to be taught on Thursday-Saturday before I decide. I do not need the beginner classes. I don't have the exact classes figured out yet. I'm still working on that. I hope to be able to post that in about a month. Beginners will be able to start with beginner classes but if you are past beginner you will just jump right into the slightly advanced classes. Most classes will have a hybrid project to do like the ones you see in the store here:
