Here in Germany we feel pretty safe letting our kids enjoy the fun of Halloween. We trick-or-treat on the military base, since the Germans don't really know what it is. There is no threat of any of the darker things associated with Halloween. I begin with that because I don't know how you all feel about the day.
Anyway, so my son wants to be Anakin from the new Clone Wars movie. Easy peasy! Costume Express here we come! But my daughter, the creative little imp that she is, decided to be a peacock. A PEACOCK!?! I work in a craft store and all, but I'm still like, how am I going to make a peacock? If you search for peacock costumes on the internet you will find one. A Vegas showgirl. Very not appropriate for my little 11 year old... So we came up with the attached.
I used fusible stabilizer (very heavy weight) and this lovely turquoise fabric with paisleys that look like peacock feathers. Then I sewed the feathers into the belt. The "tail" can be worn down or up, just like a peacock. We're still working on the body part. Anyway, side bar from scrapbooking, but you better believe it's going to be a page in a few weeks!!!

WOW!!! Thank you!!! I've got it on a manequin at work so we can advertise our costume contest and so it won't get destroyed before Halloween. It's killing my daughter because she wants to wear it SOOOO bad!!! I draped the manequin in teal tulle so it wouldn't be "naked" and it looks so regal! It's just fun.

ahaha. well. i haven't done that yet. i would get a garbage can, cut out the bottom, get in it, make some type of suspenders to go over my shoulders and hold it up, and take FAKE trash and put it all around my face and the top!!
oh. also holes for my arms!! :) ..oh! and it would be a NEW CLEAN garbage can.
:) ahaha.
and i'll look for pictures!! :)

Madison--that would be so funny! Maybe the lid could be made into some kind of hat. :)
I knew a girl who was static cling one year for Halloween. She ratted her hair and then wore a black sweat suit with socks and dryer sheets sewn to it. :) I like all your ideas...you will need to post some pics for us to see what you decide on this year.
