I think I'm going crazy!

I've been trying for the past ten minutes trying to delete part of a picture. I have some stitching that I would like to use as a frame, so what I'm trying to do is delete the leftover picture that is outside of the stitching. I know it has to do something with load selection>inverse>delete but when I do this my whole picture gets deleted! HELP! Thanks in advance! You all rock!

Jenny I think you can just use your marquee tool and select the the portion of the picture you want deleted, press delete and them deselect your selection.

Use your Marquee tool and select what you want to keep. Make sure that you are on the picture layer. Then go up to select and inverse. Then push delete on the keyboard. It should work. I just tried it. You have to be on the right layer.
