Someone wrote me asking this...

Also, have you ever heard of someone having difficulty saving a psd to a jpeg? When I try to resave a page as a jpeg, I get an error message saying that it cannot complete because of a program error.

I wrote her back a couple of ideas including that maybe she didn't have enough memory on her computer or perhaps she was trying to save a file that started with a weird file format other than jpg or psd. She wrote:

I don't think it is my computer memory because I just bought it a month ago and it looks like I am only using about 10% of the capacity. I am saving the file as a psd until I am done and then I flatten the image and that is when I am trying to save it as a jpeg. The strange thing is, sometime it will work! I can't figure out why sometimes it doesn't work when I do the exact same thing. I am using Photoshop 5.

Does anyone else have an idea for her???

I would try to spell jpg the same... sometimes my computer says that if i spell it like jpeg or jpg. Now i always spell it like jpg.

If this helps you... let me know.

Maybe this sounds dumb, but several people I know (including myself when I first started) have tried to save their psd documents into a jpeg format simply by erasing ".psd" after their document name and typing ".jpg" in its' place. In order to save in a different format you've got to find the drop down menu in the "save" screen that says "photoshop." Then click on the arrows beside it to find "jpeg." Select "jpeg" and click "save." Simple, but necessary.

how about in photoshop to use the "save for web" feature. That has the option to save as a jpg, and gives the users a few more options.

i don't use PS but i know in PSP there is an "export to..." option and that will export a copy as jpg, gif, whatever... i think save for web in PS like Keith said is a good alternative, though!

Hey Keith I don't think that your option is the best if she wants to print her layouts. It will make them too low in resolution. If she doesn't care about printing that would be ok.
